The Identity Verification Vendors That Don't Quote a Price
More than half of the field on this site does not publish per-check rates. Here is who they are, why they don't quote, and what it costs you operationally.
Direct answer
Why do so many vendors hide identity verification pricing?
Six of eleven vendors covered on this site do not publish per-check rates. Sterling, HireRight, Accurate Background, and First Advantage focus on Fortune 500 hiring with custom volume contracts. TransUnion ShareAble is the enterprise multifamily product. ID.me and Yoti price reusable credentials tied to NIST assurance level. The common thread: pricing is too sensitive to contract terms and configuration for a single number to be meaningful.
The quote-only roster
Each of the six below has a per-vendor dossier with the same depth as the published-price vendors, but the pricing rows say Quote Only and link to the vendor's own sales contact.

The operational cost of quote-only pricing
- Procurement timeline. Quote-only enterprise vendor sales cycles run 4 to 12 weeks. Self-serve published-price vendors activate same day.
- Benchmarking difficulty. Without a published rate, you cannot compare like-for-like across the quote-only field without first signing NDAs.
- NDA risk. Most enterprise contracts include pricing confidentiality clauses.
- Renewal economics. Enterprise vendor contracts commonly include an annual escalator clause; the specific percentage is contract-specific and not publicly disclosed by any of the four quote-only workforce vendors. Ask for the escalator clause as part of the initial quote.
- Switching cost. Enterprise vendors typically require 12-month minimum contracts with auto-renewal language.
What to ask in a quote-only sales call
If you are evaluating workforce background-check vendors
- Per-check rate at the package you actually need (Basic, plus county, plus federal, plus drug, plus MVR).
- Pass-through court access fee policy: vendor markup or pass-through at cost?
- Setup fee. Third-party listings cite $175 (First Advantage) to $5,000 (HireRight).
- Annual minimum commitment.
- Adverse-action workflow handling: vendor or employer responsibility?
If you are evaluating enterprise tenant screening
- Per-report rate at 100 / 500 / 2,000 reports per month volume.
- Bundle composition (credit, criminal, eviction, income). TransUnion SmartMove publishes $25 / $40 / $48; ShareAble enterprise should beat that at volume.
- PMS integration fees (Yardi, RealPage, AppFolio).
- Sales-tax handling.
If you are evaluating consumer KYC
- Per-verification rate at IAL1, IAL2, IAL3 separately.
- Credential reuse pricing. Both ID.me and Yoti discount reused credentials.
- Subscription floor: minimum monthly platform fee.
- Compliance integration scope: PCI / HIPAA / FedRAMP / state-specific data residency.
Why we don't republish third-party inferred rates
Listing sites (Vendr, G2, SaaSworthy, Capterra, ITQlick) publish per-check or per-verification rates for quote-only vendors based on user-submitted data and salesperson conversations. These numbers vary materially by buyer size, contract length, and configuration. Republishing them as authoritative would mislead procurement teams into expecting rates the vendor will not actually quote.
