Identity Verification Cost FAQ
The questions buyers actually ask when researching workforce background checks, tenant screening, and consumer KYC pricing.
What is the cheapest published identity verification check in 2026?
TransUnion SmartMove Basic at $25 per tenant screening report is the cheapest published per-check price across the workforce / tenant / consumer-KYC field as of 17 June 2026. Checkr and GoodHire Basic at $29.99 are the cheapest in the workforce background-check category. All three are verified directly from each vendor's published pricing page.
Why are six vendors quote-only?
Sterling, HireRight, Accurate Background, and First Advantage focus on Fortune 500 and large-enterprise HR; their pricing scales with annual volume, configuration, and pass-through data costs. TransUnion ShareAble is the enterprise multifamily product (the individual landlord product SmartMove publishes prices). ID.me and Yoti price reusable credentials tied to NIST identity-assurance level. We do not republish third-party inferred rates because those numbers cannot be cited to the vendor itself.
Are Checkr and GoodHire really the same price?
Yes, as of 17 June 2026. Both publish Basic $29.99, Essential $54.99, and Complete $89.99 per check. Both rebranded their middle and top tiers in 2026 (previously Pro and Premier). Both pass through county / state court access fees at cost. GoodHire is owned by Checkr (acquired April 2022).
Is RentSpree free for landlords?
The rental application tool is free for landlords; you only pay when a screening report is run. Screening report (credit + background + eviction) is $39.99 per applicant. RentSpree PRO is $19.99 per user per month subscription with a 30-day free trial. Rent payment processing is $3 per ACH transaction for landlords; tenants pay 3% on credit card and zero on ACH bank transfers.
Which is cheaper for individual landlords, RentSpree or TransUnion SmartMove?
TransUnion SmartMove at $25 per report (Basic tier) is cheaper than RentSpree at $39.99 per screening, but the bundles are different. SmartMove Basic includes only ResidentScore and criminal background. RentSpree's $39.99 covers credit + background + eviction history bundled. SmartMove Plus at $40 is the closer like-for-like comparison.
What is the difference between identity verification cost and KYC cost?
Identity verification is the broader category covering workforce background checks, tenant screening, and consumer KYC. KYC (Know Your Customer) is a regulated-finance subcategory tied to anti-money-laundering rules. Regulated-finance KYC vendors (Persona, Onfido, Veriff, Trulioo, Jumio, Socure) are covered on sister site kycpricing.com.
Do the published per-check prices include all costs?
No. Pass-through court and database access fees are not included in Checkr's or GoodHire's published per-check rate. These fees typically add $5 to $40 per check depending on jurisdiction. Drug screening starts at $60 per clinic-based test or $37 per onsite test, separate from background checks. Motor Vehicle Record add-on is $9.50 per check.
How often is pricing re-verified?
Every vendor source URL is re-fetched at least once per quarter. The current verification cycle date is 17 June 2026; the next scheduled refresh is September 2026. Pages with verification stamps older than three months are flagged for refresh.
Why do third-party listing sites show different prices for HireRight and First Advantage?
Vendr, G2, SaaSworthy, and Capterra republish per-check rates for HireRight, First Advantage, and other quote-only vendors based on user-submitted data and salesperson conversations. These numbers vary materially by buyer size and contract terms. We do not republish these third-party numbers because they cannot be cited to the vendor and they vary widely.
