What changed in the April 2022 acquisition

Checkr acquired GoodHire in April 2022 and chose to operate it as a standalone SMB brand rather than fold the customers into the Checkr account UI. The public tier names converged on Basic / Essential / Complete (GoodHire's historical naming), and the per-check prices aligned to $29.99 / $54.99 / $89.99 across both vendors. As of 17 June 2026 the public pricing pages show no differentiation by price; the differentiation is by product experience.

Add-on rates compared

Checkr publishes add-on rates directly on the pricing page. GoodHire's page lists add-ons as available but does not publish per-add-on rates for all categories. The most consequential difference is the published MVR rate.

Pricing-page risk flag

Older third-party listings still show GoodHire and Checkr tiers labelled Basic / Pro / Premier. As of 17 June 2026 both vendors' public pages show Basic / Essential / Complete. Per-check prices did not change in the rebrand. Verify against the source URLs above before signing a contract; the per-check rate is what is published, not what older review sites claim.

Verdict

For 90 percent of US SMB hiring buyers, the choice between Checkr and GoodHire is decided by product surface rather than per-check price. Pick GoodHire if you want the simplest self-serve workflow and you hire fewer than 50 people per year. Pick Checkr if you want an API, you hire internationally, or you are integrating into an ATS that has a native Checkr connector. The total annual spend will be identical at published rates.

Use the multi-vendor calculator at your actual monthly check volume to see annual cost side by side. At published rates both vendors return the same number; the difference shows up in operational time-cost, not procurement cost.
